Goals of the group

The goal of the group is to provide emotional support, share information and resources, and facilitate peer support among individuals affected by cancer.

By offering a supportive community, the group will help improve the overall well-being and quality of life for those navigating the cancer journey.

It aims to enhance coping skills, promote empowerment and advocacy, address practical concerns, and foster hope and resilience in participants.

Who is the group for?

This group is designed for adults 18 years and above in India who are currently undergoing cancer treatment. If you are newly diagnosed or are experiencing the challenges of ongoing treatment, in consolidation phase or in between treatment cohorts, this group will provide a supportive environment to share experiences, gain insights and build your coping strategies.
The group is not designed for those who are terminally ill or transitioning to end-of-life care

What will we talk about?

1. Coping strategies for managing fear, anxiety, and uncertainty associated with a cancer diagnosis.
2.Expressing feelings and emotions related to the cancer experience in a safe and supportive environment.
3.Dealing with the impact of cancer on relationships with family, friends, and loved ones.
4.Exploring ways to maintain a positive outlook and find sources of hope and inspiration during difficult times.
5.Discussing the challenges of treatment, such as side effects, fatigue, and lifestyle adjustments.
6.Sharing personal stories and experiences to foster connection and empathy among group members.
7.Addressing concerns about body image, self-esteem, and changes in physical appearance due to cancer treatment.
8.Exploring the role of spirituality, faith, or mindfulness practices in coping with cancer.
9.Navigating difficult decisions about treatment options, including weighing risks and benefits.

Meet your Facilitator

Rajeshwari Zephaniah

Ms. A Rajeshwari has a 8 years of work experience in the field of Psycho-Onolcogy. She has helped over 1000 patients and/or their families to cope with the trajectory of the disease and also navigate through decision making by briding the communication gap between care provider and the patient/family.

Concerns that she has extensively worked with include: emotional distress, non-pharmacological measures to help cope with pain, End of Life care issues, Tobacco Cessation, deal and cope with individual changes and inter-personal role changes, dealing with new normalcy, providing psycho-edcuation related to treatment and its side effects, helping families cope with caregiver burden and burnout, helping children cope with cancer and its treatment.

Contributions
She has presented papers at National conferences at Psycho-Oncology, Psychology and Palliative Care to showcase the role, impact and need of Psycho-Oncology Services.
She has published a research paper in the IJPC (Indian Journal of Palliative Care) on Ässessment of Distress among Patients and Primary Caregivers; Findings from Chemotherapy Out-Patient Unit”(2020)
She also co-authored a research paper in Cancer Reports on “Inception of a Caregiver Support Group directed by Patient Needs” (2021)

What are SoulUp groups?

Yes, all group sessions are conducted on video via Zoom. While participants are allowed to use pseudonyms - they need to be on video to make the most of the session.

Confidentiality in Support Groups is maintained using secure meeting links and enabling waiting rooms to control participant access. Participants are bound by mutual confidentiality clause within the group. Also, sessions are not recorded without explicit consent.

While the format can vary as per topic, here’s a flow that most sessions follow:

Check In. Participants check-in with each others' feelings and answer the prompt given by the facilitator if any.

Conversation. Your facilitator will guide the group through free-flowing conversation coupled with some simple exercises or activities —with the goal of sharing openly, connecting to your emotions and learning specific skills.

Check Out. Participants share what they're taking away from the session.

1. After you have registered for the group and you'd like to opt out:
- Full refund if you cancel 30 days before the group start date.
- 50% refund if you cancel 16-30 days before the group start date.
- No refund if you cancel 0-15 days before the group start date.

2. If SoulUp cancels a group, we will refund the entire signup fee.

3. If SoulUp reschedules a group by more than 2 weeks, we will inform you and give you an option to opt out and get a full refund.

4. SoulUp reserves the right to remove participants from a group if found unsuitable to the group. In such cases participants are given the option of claiming the pro-rata amount left as a refund or using it for another service on SoulUp.
